Dr Rachel Findlay
Clinical Psychologist BSc, MSc (Hons), DClinPsych, HCPC Reg.
Dr Rachel Findlay is an experienced and down-to-earth Clinical Psychologist, originally trained and registered in New Zealand. She gained HCPC registration in the UK last year, after relocating to Scotland. She has experience working with a wide range of mental health difficulties, with clients across the lifespan. She works with children and/or their parents, young people/adolescents, and adults of all ages. She also offers clinical supervision within her areas of expertise.
Rachel has a warm, approachable, and transparent style of working. She is skilled at helping both children and adults feel safe in a therapeutic space, through empathic listening and respectful communication. She is committed to making a difference in the lives of her clients, by tailoring her approach to the unique needs of the individuals and families she is working with. She is a strong believer in the importance of a holistic approach to mental health recovery, and in recognising the pre-existing strengths and inherent resilience of her clients.
Rachel can help with a wide range of challenges, including low mood, low self-esteem, anxiety, emotional challenges in children, parenting support, difficulties associated with neurodivergence, grief and adjustment, trauma, and relationship difficulties. She supports her clients in processing their emotional difficulties, and finding helpful solutions and healthy coping strategies.
Rachel draws upon evidence-based approaches in her work. Her primary treatment modality is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). However, she has also attended training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), and introductory modules of Schema Therapy (ST), and may integrate aspects from different approaches, in line with individualised needs.
Since 2008, Rachel has worked in child and adolescent mental health settings, child development services, a mental health service for older adults, and an adult mental health service. She also has experience working with frontline workers (trauma support), adults who have sustained childhood abuse, and adults with criminal conviction histories. She has a neuropsychological assessment background relating to traumatic brain injury and neurodevelopmental concerns/intellectual disability. Her experience has been gained across both the public and private sectors.
Dr Findlay offers limited in-person or online sessions on Thursdays and Fridays only, typically during business hours. She works with children and/or their parents, young people/adolescents, and adults of all ages. She also offers clinical supervision within her areas of expertise.
